Our story at Tides Family Services only matters because theirs do and over 30 years ago Brother Michael Reis decided to do something about these stories. The result? We’ve been meeting people where they’re at emotionally and physically since 1983.
- We’re sitting at their kitchen tables.
- We’re playing in their parks.
- We’re helping them manage their days and nights together.
One thing we know for sure is that these aren’t simply youth issues; these are family issues. Family is the missing link that is overlooked by other services. Our cost-effective approach has been commended by political decision-makers and law enforcement professionals because it has a track record of success. Tides keeps youth out of costly residential programs and prevails in producing better results.
What began with $15,000 in seed money and a closet-sized office has grown to a staff of over 100 dedicated employees and an operations budget 400 times its start.
Speaking of our staff, we’re a team of energetic and impassioned outreach workers, social workers, and teachers working day and night to meet with youth and their families—in their homes, on the streets, in the schools, in family court, and on the basketball courts. Central to our work is always an strength-based approach combined with data-driven decision making.
Every day we work with over 500 high-risk youth and their families in the core cities of Providence, Woonsocket, Central Falls/Pawtucket, Coventry, Warwick, West Warwick. We maintain two storefront schools and provide highly effective outreach and tracking program that includes extensive family support, non-traditional counseling and out of school activities. At the end of the day, the #1 thing to know is that wherever the kids in need are, Tides staff will be there.
